Lazio and Athletic Bilbao are currently level on points in the UEFA Europa League
The tournament is approaching its climax, and at the moment the top three looks like this: first place is occupied by Italian Lazio with 19 points and six wins in eight games, followed by Athletic Bilbao with similar indicators, but fewer goals scored. The top three is completed by English Manchester United, lagging behind by just one point. Last year, the winner of the Europa League was Italian Atalanta, who defeated German Bayer with a score of 3:0. This season, the outcome of the tournament is difficult to predict due to intense competition and strong opponents.
This year, the Europa League format has changed: instead of a group stage, a general league stage has been introduced, and the number of teams has been increased from 32 to 36. All teams now compete in one table, where the eight best teams automatically get into the 1/8 finals, and the remaining 16 play for the remaining tickets. The remaining teams are finishing the season. The English Premier League is represented by two clubs: Manchester United and Tottenham. Manchester is in third place, and Tottenham is next in fourth position. The main intrigue is currently unfolding between the Italian and Spanish teams.
In March, Lazio from Rome made it to the quarterfinals, drawing with Viktoria from the Czech Republic (1:1, 3:2 on aggregate). Athletic Bilbao also reached the quarter-finals. The teams' next matches are scheduled for April.
Lazio continues to play in the Italian championship. In the last Serie A game, which took place on March 2, 2025, the team led by Marco Baroni beat Milan 2-1 thanks to a penalty in the 90+8th minute. Now the Romans look like the main contenders to reach the Europa League final in Bilbao. But the outcome of the tournament is still unpredictable.
