Euro 2024 will open with a match between Germany and Scotland

For the German national team, the goal for the Eurois set very clearly: to win every match, qualify for the final and win. The Scots have simpler tasks: to reach at least the 1/8 finals. Such a result will already be a success for them.

Germany, as the host of the championship, did not compete for a place in the Euro, but was automatically included in the number of participants. Her opponent became a sensation in the qualifying games. Scottish football players never achieved significant success and were not among the elite. Before Euro 2020, they could not qualify for any international tournament for more than two decades. The last time the blue-and-whites were lucky was in 1998, when they participated in the World Cup.

This year the Scots made a splash. They beat Cyprus (3:0), then Spain (2:0), Norway (2:1), Georgia(2:0). Such achievements were made possible thanks to the team's head coach Steve Clark. He has been working with football players since the spring of 2019. His goal was to qualify for Euro 2024, and two years later for the FIFA World Cup. In addition, since the beginning of the 10s, a reform of Scottish football took place in the country: sports schools were opened, stadiums were built, and team funding increased.

Despite such successes of the Scots, the statistics of their meetings with Germany are far from encouraging. In total, the teams met 6 times. Of these, the German team won 5 times and only one match was drawn. Moreover, the teams have not clashed on the field for 6 years.

It is logical that the Germany team is considered the favorite: they have experience and elite football players on their side. What's on Scotland's side? First of all – a great desire to win.
