3 March 2024
The last three participants in EURO 2024 will be determined at the end of March
The last three stages of EURO 2024 took place in an expanded format. Instead of the traditional 16 teams, 24 took part in them. In the summer, 24 teams will also arrive in Germany. Now there are six groups. The two strongest teams from each group will participate in the playoffs. Additional places are given to 4 out of 6 participants who won 3rd places.
Due to the fact that as many as 8 additional places have appeared, teams from countries that have never previously qualified for this championship can take part in the Euro.
Most of the teams are already known. The draw for the final stage of the tournament took place in December 2023. France, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, Scotland, Turkey, Austria, England, Hungary, Slovakia, Denmark, Albania, Romania, Switzerland and the Netherlands have already secured their places. Germany staked out its place as host of the championship. Thus, all the top countries are already here.
Teams that have not yet qualified for the EURO have play-off matches ahead. 12 teams can compete for tickets to the championship. The three winners of the finals will receive three trips, which will be their last. On March 21, 6 semi-finals are scheduled to be held within 3 play-off tournaments. In 4 days, on March 26, three finals will be held. Their winners will go to Germany.
Teams from Poland, Estonia, Wales, Finland, Israel, Iceland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, Georgia, Luxembourg, Greece and Kazakhstan will take part in the play-off tournaments.
All rivalries will consist of one match. The loser is eliminated from the race for seats. The finalist will be determined at the end of regular time, extra time or a penalty shootout.
