The Hungary national football team, controlled by the Hungarian Football Federation, represents the country in international competitions.
The national team was created in 1903, and the official debut match in the international competitions dates back to 1912 at the Olympic Games in Stockholm.
Today, Hungary's national team players are called the Mighty Magyars, but in the first half of the 1950s, this team, led by coach Gusztáv Sebes, entered the history of world football as the Golden Team. The basis for its formation was Hungarian FC Honvéd from Budapest. From June 1950 to June 1956, the national team played 31 winning matches. It's the longest win-win period among FIFA national teams.
It also won gold at the 1952 Olympic Games and the Central European Cup. In 1953, the Hungarian national team became the first non-British team to defeat the English national team at Wembley.
The Hungarian team has always been distinguished on the field by its high speed of play and accurate tactics against opponents. However, in some periods, luck wasn't on its side. Nevertheless, the Hungarians managed to win two more gold, one silver, and one bronze medal at the Olympic Games in different years. It twice became a silver medalist at the World Championships and took third place at the European Championships in 1964.
In the 2024 FIFA international ranking, the Hungarian team is 27th. Its best result was 18th place in 2016.
The Hungarian national team will play in Group A in the upcoming UEFA European Championship. Its rivals will be Switzerland on June 15, Germany on June 19, and Scotland on June 23. Hurry up to buy tickets for the matches of the Hungary national football team!
