The Switzerland national football team played its first international match on February 12, 1905. It was against the French national team, ending with a score of 1-0 in favor of rivals. In 1924, the Swiss won silver medals at the Olympic Games. After that, it spent quite a long period without serious achievements. In 1934, in Italy, it took part in the second World Cup, reaching the quarterfinals and losing to the future silver medalists of this World Cup, Czechoslovakia, with a score of 3:2. Then the national team participated in 10 more World Cups, reaching the quarterfinals only three times: in 1934, 1938 and 1954. The Swiss have participated in the European Championships 5 times, starting in 1996. At Euro 2020, the team managed to reach the 1/4 play-offs. At the Euro 2024 qualifying stage, Switzerland got into group I with Andorra, Belarus, Israel, Kosovo, and Romania.
