King Abdullah Sports City, also known as the Shining Jewel or simply the Jewel, is a multi-purpose stadium and sports complex located 60 kilometers north of Jeddah, in Saudi Arabia. The name of the stadium was given in honor of King Abdullah, who ruled in Saudi Arabia at the time of its opening.
The main stadium, known as King Abdullah International Stadium, is used for football matches and has a capacity of 62,241 spectators. This stadium is the largest in Jeddah and the second largest in Saudi Arabia after the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh. It is also the tenth largest stadium in the Arab world. There are also small sports facilities around the main arena.
Saudi Aramco won the tender for the construction, and the joint venture "Al Muhaideb Contracting Company & BESIX" acted as the contractor for this project.
